Greg
comes to the Sunflower Spa from
Monterey, California and is
a Yoga Alliance™ certified
yoga instructor, trained in
both Ashtanga (vinyasa) and
Kundalini yoga. For the past
year (2004), Greg has taught
yoga part-time at California
State University Monterey Bay.
The
role that Greg plans to continue
to playing in students’
lives is that of a motivator,
to inspire students to cultivate
a regular yoga practice and
connect with their already existing
inner potential by using yogic
technologies latent in all human
beings. These yogic technologies
are asana (posture), bandas,
(internal body locks), mantras
(sound current), mudras (hand
gestures), pranayama (breath
control). Greg has a deep passion
for yoga and is excited and
humbled by the prospect of sharing
these technologies in his classes.
Greg
began his yoga teacher training
by attending a 200-hour Ashtanga
yoga teacher-training course
at It’s Yoga San Francisco
(www.itsyoga.com). At It’s
Yoga SF Greg worked with Larry
Schultz, founder, owner and
decades long Bay Area Ashtanga
teacher. Greg is trained in
Kundalini Yoga as taught by
Yogi Bhajan, through the Guru
Ran Das Ashram (www.satsantokh.com)
in San Leandro, California and
by Sada Nam Singh Khalsa in
Carmel, California.
In
addition to his yoga training
and experience, Greg holds a
M.A. in Cultural Anthropology
from the University of California,
Santa Cruz (UCSC) and a BA in
Social and Behavioral Sciences
from California State University
Monterey Bay (CSUMB).
Greg
‘discovered’ yoga
while in graduate school in
Santa Cruz, California, in an
attempt to reverse two decades
of competitive soccer, six years
of military training, and several
seasons of collegiate rugby.
Greg is quoted as saying, “I
was too young to feel so old
and yoga has helped put vitality
back into my physical being
and my life. It is remarkable
how changing the way you breathe
affects other facets of your
life and be a powerful transformative
force”.
From
his very first yoga class some
four years ago (2001) Greg knew
that yoga would become an integral
part of his life. Within a little
over a year after his first
yoga class Greg transitioned
from a Ph. D. program to the
rigor and discipline of the
formal study and practice of
Ashtanga and Kundalini yoga.
